9 Books That Will Give you a Complete Money Makeover

Books and coffee on top

When I first started my personal finance journey, I had no clue what to do first. People around me had all kinds of advice and it felt overwhelming because it contradicted each other. I decided I had to figure this one out on my own. So, I began my weekly trips to Barnes and Noble and explored every crevice of the Personal Finance and Business aisles. Within a matter of a month, I consumed book after book. There was so much I didn’t know and these books gave me a perspective I wouldn’t never been exposed to, it also prompted me to ask different questions, and I started getting familiar with the personal finance world. I was hooked.

These eleven books helped me create the foundation I needed to jumpstart my financial journey.

The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke by Suze Orman

This was the very first personal finance book I read. The title resonated with me and I loved the conversational style Suze used. If you’re just starting out in your journey, this book is a must read.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to read these books, there are affordable, even free options:

  • Claim your First Free Month of Audible. Audible is great for listening to audiobooks. I was able to read 7 books in one month because I would listen to my books while cleaning, driving, cooking, folding laundry, etc. I prefer the traditional way of reading but audiobooks will certainly help you get a jump start on your reading!
  • Libby – This app allows you to connect your library card and access Ebooks and audiobooks, completely free! You can borrow up to five books at a time and put others on hold.
  • Use Bookswap to exchange your old books for new ones and only pay for shipping.

Whichever way you decide to read these books, just start. These books are a great way to get you on the path towards financial freedom.
